WHAT IS ARCHITECTURE?

Architecture is the art and technique of designing buildings.

There are different types of architecture which include:

1. Residential;

2. Commercial;

3. Industrial;

4. Interior Design.

The purpose of architecture is to create a physical environment in which people live in.

Architecture is also a part of our cultures of all societies.

WHAT IS AN ARCHITECT?

An architect is a trained designer of buildings.

He/She combines creative ability ,technical knowledge and managerial expertise to be able to interpret a client's requirements into built form.

Being an architect is more than just drawing and building, it involves knowledge of engineering, maths and science. One must also have dedication, drive and most importantly the ability to design.

An architect takes a project through a number of stages:

1. Brief:

discussions with a client,establishing and analysing the client’s requirements.

2. Feasibility studies:

testing alternative proposal,looking at each in terms of value of money and the options each solution offers the client.

3. Project:

drawing outline plans,sections,elevations and maybe perspective sketches or making a three dimensional model to communicate the essential characteristics of the proposed building to a client obtaining his approval and producing final design.

4. Contract:

preparation of detailed information required for building By-laws,town planning,and other legislative approvals and for construction.

5. Supervison:

To see that the building is built in accordance with the original drawings and specifications and to assist in solving any unforeseen problems that may arise on site.

WHY DO YOU NEED AN ARCHITECT?

A good architect will not strictly impose their ideas at the expense of your own.
Step by step,by consultation and agreement your architect will lead you through the entire process from the conception of an idea to the finished building

An architect can help you navigate through the world of planning permissions and building codes.

No other building professional has the comprehensive and wide ranging education, training, ethics, experience and vision to co-ordinate the entire design and construction process, from helping you to define what you want to build to helping you get the best value for your money.

He/she can suitably advise on the appointment of specialist engineers or quantity surveyors and co-ordinate their various services to meet the building programme.

A well-planned project can be built more efficiently and economically. Professional attention to detail will save money and time. In the short term architects will oversee the selection of materials and finishes and quality of the workmanship.

Architects have the imagination and vision to see the overall plan, not just designing the building but creating integrated environments, with interiors and exteriors that will satisfy functional needs and are exciting and dynamic spaces in which to work or live in. Architects provide creative thinking and problem solving solutions

Architects are not only designers; they are also often project managers too.
They will guide you through the complex procedures of planning permission and building regulations.
They will help you find and brief any other consultants you may need--structural engineers or quantity surveyors,for example.
They will attend to details,organise site meetings,contract documents and will monitor the builder’s programme of works through to completion
